Jamaica Diaspora Empowers Tomorrow; One Mentee at a Time

Mission Statement

The JDMA empowers Jamaican youth by matching them with diaspora mentors, fostering development through  virtual mentorship sessions, leveraging diaspora resources and experience.

Mentor: 12-Step Workflow, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan

  • Step 1: Fill out the mentor application form


  • Step 2:  One-to-one Informational Meeting


  • Step 3: Soft Launch: 16 - 19th June 10th Biennial Diaspora Conference, in Montego Bay


  • Step 4: Fill out the code of ethics agreement form for mentors


  • Step 5: Mentor On-boarding/ Training Session using concept paper content


  • Step 6: JDMA's advisory board 

          A) Matches mentor/mentees based on expressed preferences to the extent possible 

         B) Conducts monthly randomized check-ins with     mentee's/parents/guardians/3rd party contact persons 


  • Step 7: Hard Launch: September 2024


  • Step 8: Monthly 1-hour meetings with mentees (Zoom or Teams - adult in the space) - (deliverable submissions to precede meetings), first 3 deliverables - CV, Cover Letter, Mentor regional Portfolio (all adapted to mentees). 9 subsequent deliverables completely personalized per mentee needs. A) Goal Setting and B) Personal Development                                                                


  • Step 9: Mentors keep a logbook of all meeting dates and times, deliverables and feedback/commentary


  •  Step 10: Ongoing quarterly knowledge sharing (mentor meet up/workshops) 


  • Step 11: All hands seasonal events (Christmas, Easter, Graduation/prize giving ceremony)


  • Step 12: End of year mentee evaluations and follow up plan with members of the advisory board (consistency, ownership of sessions, reactive, proactive, punctual, quality of deliverable, bi-monthly reports)

· The Jamaica Diaspora Mentorship Academy (JDMA) monitors communications on this site, especially between mentees and mentors in order to protect our mentees, mentors, stakeholders and partners and to ensure that the quality of the deliverables are in keeping with standard practices, relevant to each age group and decided upon during collaborative mentor training sessions. 

· Monitoring is conducted with appropriate confidentiality controls and in accordance with local laws and after appropriate consultation. 

· The JDMA is committed to respect the common code of ethics from the 3 major coach associations (EMCC, ICF, SF Coach). 

Gold Star Mentee:


  1. No missed sessions
  2. Deliverables of Exceptional Standard
  3. Takes ownership of goals
  4. Communicative
  5. Bi-monthly reports of exceptional quality

Silver Star Mentee:


  1. Fewer than 3 missed sessions
  2. Deliverables of High Standard
  3. Some Goals met
  4. Responsive
  5. Bi-monthly reports of high quality

Bronze Star Mentee:


  1. More than 3 missed sessions
  2. Deliverables Submitted
  3. Goals met
  4. Responsive
  5. Bi-monthly reports submitted
